It was on the chilly side waiting outside the Plantthis morning for the door to open. Of course when the temperature gauge in the Trucksaid it was Freezingit should be.

Before even getting my Coverallson this morning I lowered the Pipesfrom the Mezzanineso the Ivan could lay them across a bin. While he went to burn the CarriersI started hauling them to the Compressor Roomwhere they’ll be stored until they get used.

When we replaced the Leaky Gasketon the Number Four Pumplast week just the movement in the Plastic Pipecaused a Leakto develop which is understandable considering the Pipewas put together nearly Forty Yearsago. After cleaning the surface of the joint it was a process of adding layers of Pipe Gluehours apart and not getting them wet for at least Twenty-Four Hours.

Paul wanted us to flushout the Two Burner Tubesthat go through Number Twoand Three Tanks. TheBurnerssend Flamesthrough the Tubesto heat the Water Solutioninside the Tanksthat is used to clean the Parts. After about Six Monthsa Carburizingtakes affect making it harder to warm the tanks because it chokes off the Flame. After shutting and disconnecting the Pilot and Main Burner Gas Linesthe Burnersthemselves were removed. I forgot to mention that my new Knee Pads got well used today because the Burnersare under the Washersthemselves. A specially made plate is then installed which has an Air Fittingand a Water Feed. Watching the Damperon the Exhaust FlueIvan said it was like watching someone getting sick as waves of Black Soot Filled Water spewed out. When the water started coming out clear the process was finished and it was time to reassemble the Burners. We then tested both units and they fired up immediately.

Yesterday when the Number Eight Pumpwent down Kharen wasn’t too concerned about it. Today Paul insisted we get it up and running but we needed to find a Fan Impellerto cool it down. Not finding any usableImpellersin the Compoundor Compressor RoomIvan and I went through the Pumpsstored in the Warehouseand didn’t find anything. Next we went up on the Mezzanineuntil by luck we found an identical Pump Motor. The Impellerwas in perfect condition so it looked like we might be able to leave by 4:30. Murphyhad other ideas.

The Fan Impellerwent onfairly easy but when it came to getting the protective Coveron there wasn’t enough room. As mentioned yesterday when the Number 9 Tankwas installed it left little clearance for Air Flowto the Number 8 Pump. We ended up having to disconnect the Feedand Discharge Pipesas well as the Mounts. That allowed us to replace the Impeller Coverbut as in the past it was a Nightmare reconnecting the Pumpitself.

Paul was surprised to see us wrapping up the job at 6:00 but it was 6:20 by the time we washed up, put my Tools in the Truckand Punched Out.

The first thing I did when I got in the Apartmentwas to take an Extra Strength Tylenol. We shared a Store Bought Thin Crust Spicy Chicken Pizzafor supper and some FreshPineapplefor dessert.

The Weather Networkshowed our high temperature today only felt like 36F(2C) today with lots of Wind. There’s a good chance we’ll be having Flurriesovernight and tomorrow.

Being on the Eighth Floorthe wind makes lots of noise on our Balconyso Kathy stayed home all day. She watched the 6 o’clock Local News and said there was nothing worth worrying about.
